International Open Forum ART SWAP EUROPE
The project was initiated and operated by the Internationale Gesellschaft der Bildenden Künste (IGBK) and took place in Berlin on 11-12 October 2008.
The project focuses on gathering non-commercial, artist-run organizations who run international exchange projects and have their own exhibition spaces, to network and exchange experiences. Today the networking between artist-run organizations is mostly based on personal relationships; this is an attempt on a larger scale to identify the different structures/strategies that the various artist-run organizations are using.
How can a common bank of experience, when made visible, throw new light on the issues that are specific to the artist-run initiatives?
Artswap Europe’s program consisted of an Open Forum with presentations of the participants’ concepts and exhibition spaces, discussions and exchange of experiences. 70 participants were presented, and organized seminars/lectures were given. Also, a workshop was held with focus on artists’ mobility in Europe as well as their networking and presentation platforms.
Artswap is a collaboration between Internationale Gesellschaft der Bildenden Künste and Akademie der Kunste, with support from Der Beauftragte der Bundesregierung für Cultural und Medien. The event took place at the Akademie der Künste.
Studio 44 in Stockholm was, as an artist-run gallery, invited to participate in Artswap Europe.
We were two artists that represented Studio 44 at this event, with support from IASPIS.
